RETOLD Features

In order to be able to add information you need to Join RETOLD
Once your organisation register as a partner in RETOLD, it will receive its own ID. Admin of the system (EXARC) will add the the user: manager (a museum curator and/or director).

Users with different Authorization Levels
The RETOLD system was made by open-air museums staff and volunteers in cooperation with specialists. Defining personas helped identify the different user journeys and their requirements as well as creating a process flow. We included people documenting (staff member - museum staff or volunteers tasked with uploading information to the system), and apart from that people signing off / publishing what has been produced (manager). The staff member users will be added to the system by the manager of the organisation, and proper roles will be added to each user.

Setting Up 
Before filling out the documentation form itself, you need to set things up. Here you define things and people which pop up later in your documentation, think of the crafter, documenter, tools, and installations. Imagine that what you define here, can be re-used in any next documentation form. 

 

The RETOLD system currently contains four features:

A section for documenting crafts

You can document crafts. Crafters form an important resource for open-air museums, sharing their experience and expertise. With RETOLD, you can document craft activities, starting with background information, zooming in to how it is practised today in your museum, and combine this with video and images. Read more

Craft Video

You can document crafts as video. This video is an important part of the documentation, where we show the materials and tools used, the entire manufacturing process, presenting each stage of work, and illustrating the final product. This format is helpful in documenting some of the intangible nature of craft practice. For the video you find guidelines here. 

 

A section for documenting buildings

You can document buildings. Think of the historical buildings, archaeological reconstructions or experimental structures that form part of the inventory of your museum. This feature accommodates a variety of content, such as digitised documents, images, drawings and 3D models. Read more

You can add information to the buildings. You can use RETOLD to capture pinpointed information in or around a building. This information can be relevant for visitors, for maintenance purposes, or even to capture the progress of archaeological experiments. Read more
