Personas - Sam
We really need to make progress with digitisation, so that we preserve the organisational knowledge we have.
PhD in archaeology, has worked as a manager in several museums. Has started recently as a director at a well-known European museum with an extensive exhibition area. Has some experience with experimental archaeology but was hired on his experience with modernising heritage organisations.
Sam wants to help equip his organisation with the necessary tools to deal better with future challenges. He wants to support his motivated staff, but also the wider community of open-air museums. Sam wants to strike a good balance between using digital technology in the museum, but also preserving a way for visitors to enjoy the outdoor experience.
Sam works fulltime - sometimes more - co-ordinating all ongoing projects as well as managing 40 staff. Sam is the "official face” of the museum and spends several days a month on PR and conferences. During the visitor season, he provides support to staff responsible for events, education, and outreach.
Sebastian uses standard office tools and is familiar with archiving systems and some newer data capture methods. He always caries a phone, but works on a desktop at the office, a laptop at home.
There is aways so much to do that it is difficult to talk to staff about archiving and documentation strategies. There is a massive backlog of material that needs to be digitised and archived. A lot of the available tools he would like to try are expensive and time-consuming to set up. Staff are over-stretched and find it hard to learn new methods and tools - there is just no way to support them properly.
Sam needs a way to assess which digital tools would be the most useful for his organisation. He needs an archiving and documentation solution that his staff will enjoy using. Sam needs a solution that is not too expensive and easy to maintain.
