Castro de El Raso (ES)
The site of the Castro is few kilometres north west of the village of Raso, at the southernmost limit of Castilla y Leon, very close to the border with Estremadura, central Spain. Being in a mountain site, the view from it is breathtaking.
Excavations begun after the discovery in 1931 and extensively since the seventies. The site is over than 20 hectares and dates back from the 5th to the 1st century BC. The village was fortified with strong stone walls and had about 300 houses. Some parts of the walls were reconstructed in 2005 and two houses were reconstructed too, although they are not open to the public. During special occasions such as the Celtic feast, the village is animated by associations which carry out activities such as archery.
