M3 Archeopark - Polgár (HU)
The M3 Archeopark is a combination of a folk museum, a 5 hectare large leisure-time park and archaeological open-air museum. It opened 2007 next to the motorway M3, 40 kilometres from Debrecen, direction Polgár and parts of the presentation are about the finds which came to light during constructing the motorway.
The presentations are mainly about the folk culture of the surrounding region and much is about the recent past, shown in pavilions and recreated historical buildings.
The reconstructions based on archaeology are a part of the Csörsz defensive ditch which ran through the North Great Plain Region during the period of prehistoric migrations, a large Neolithic house and a Neolithic tomb. There is as well an indoor presentation of the archaeological past of the area, including the use of multimedia presentations. Visitors get to appreciate the indigenous plant and animal life in the North Great Plain Region through the ages.
The Park serves as venue for various types of events, for example the Festival of Nomadic Dishes a rock opera or the Regional Student Running Festival. A large playground is designed and also stages for example puppet theatre. One can do fishing, historic archery, play tennis or various group sports and traditional folk games. Conference facilities can be rented and a large offer in culinary specialities of the region can be catered: Mangalica pig roasts, bread scones with dill and sour cream, fine home-made Palinkas and various dishes made in stoves or stone grills.
