Musée du Malgré-Tout (le CEDARC) (BE)
At Treignes, there is an archaeological indoor museum, the Musée du Malgre-Tout, closely cooperating with an archaeological open air museum, the “Parc de la Préhistoire”. The indoor museum dates back to before World War I and is situated in the heating plant at Treignes.
Particularly in the years 1950 – 2000, many archaeological remains have been uncovered in the region here, between the river Sambre and Meuse. Now these finds are housed at this museum in Treignes. Every year the museum puts on two temporary exhibitions.
The archaeological open air museum shows 7 outdoor scenes including huts and refuges used by hunter-gatherers during the European Palaeolithic Age. These are constructed in animal skins, wood and bone and are replicas of originals dating from between 1,000,000 and 12,000 years ago. The Parc de la Préhistoire has developed its own education material which is widely known and used. Many tourists frequent the combination indoor/outdoor museum as well.
