Römerwelt am Caput Limitis (DE)
The Unesco acknowledged world heritage site for "Frontiers of the Roman Empire", the RomerWeltWeg, near Bad Honningen, sees the re-constructions of watchtowers near the original Limes.
Starting from the Romerwelt am caput limitis museum where visitors are introduced to the roman civilization and the Upper Germanic-Rethian Limes and its structure and organization, a wonderful hiking circular trail of approximatly 8 km, takes the visitor along the original limes.
The way the border wall was adapted to the exsisting landscape can be witnessed firsthand through the remnants of bank and ditch and mounds in correspondence of watchtowers. Some reconstructed portions of walls and watchtowers near the original findings give an accurate idea of how the border system worked.
