Among the vast forests in the lake region, between the rivers and waterfalls one thousand years ago, Slavs built their settlements and built relationships with local Finno-Ugric tribes.

In a historic location on the picturesque banks of the river Msta on the territory of the ancient settlement in 2003, a settlement of the Slavs of the tenth century was reconstructed. The project is based on the results of many years of excavations in Lyubytino but also on materials obtained in archaeological studies of Staraya Ladoga, Novgorod and other centres of the ancient Rus. “Slavic village X century" (Славянская деревня X века) is a possible reconstruction of a Slavic settlement, which includes a complex of residential and commercial buildings. Museum visitors can explore the history, culture, traditions and beliefs of our ancestors.

In Slavic village you will find exhibits you can touch with your hands, you are allowed to try on chain mail and to throw a spear, you can to turn the millstones, or try a traditional Slavic costume. The Museum staff will talk in detail about ancient crafts and show the process in detail.
