Sóstói Open Air Museum (HU)
The Sosto Open Air Museum hosts original buildings which were selected, demolished and rebuilt to be protected and brought to life again.
During the process of demolition of the original buildings, some interesting new information were collected and carefully documented to perform an accurate restoration of Transylvania, Upper Hungary, and the Great Plain typical buildings. Some specific parts, such as thatched roofs and wattle and daub walls, had to be rebuilt anew, thus discovering and maintaining ancient building techniques. In some cases, moreover, if the original building could not be demolished or was no longer exsisting, a full scale replica was built. The activities originally carried out in some of the buildings are still carried out, giving the visitor the impression of actually stepping back in the past. The museum hosts cultural and leisure events.
