Virges Armes (FR)
Château Thierry is a small town in Picardy. At the castle, the Virges Armes Museum is situated. At Virges Armes, a multi period experience is presented to the public, from Antiquity up to the 1940s.
The goal of the now closed museum was to promote heritage by means of reconstruction and living history. With and approach to interpretation, research and documentation, they organised activities and animations. Pedagogy, fun, participation and theatre representations were aimed to reinforce popular education. The reconstructed buildings were not based on specific archaeological sites but offered a general view on how things might have looked like in the past. Experimentation was carried out focussing on arts, crafts and techniques, mainly pottery and glass bead making. Living history was the most important way of working here, the museum had a large association supporting it.
